Urban foraging: Nettles in North Seattle

Today we went to harvest stinging nettles from a public park in North Seattle. Armed with scissors, gloves, and trash bags, we cut off the tender upper leaves of the nettles for steaming and soup-making.

My haul.

Washed and ready for steaming. I poked myself on the finger at this point.

After steaming.

Cooked as a spinach/arugula replacement with kale and dandelion greens in a...creatively altered version of this recipe.
