Volunteering: Seattle Japanese Garden

In fall of 2016 the Seattle Japanese Garden began a garden volunteering program, called the Niwashi Program. The garden recruits volunteers to help with minor tasks in keeping the garden looking trim and pristine, such as sweeping and weeding moss, pruning, and assisting the paid gardeners with other miscellaneous endeavors.

I found out about the Niwashi Program when I visited the Seattle Japanese Garden for its First Viewing of the year. We took a free tour of the garden after the Shinto ceremony and I hear the words "weed moss" and was immediately sold on the idea of doing that as volunteer work. I attended an orientation session in late March and then began working in April.
