Etapa 11: San Romao da Retorta to Melide ('lide 'lide), 28 km
Today I walked from San Romao da Retorta to Melide. They man who checked us in to the albergue last night left the key to the private albergue with another of the pilgrims, so nearly all of us went over to the private albergue for breakfast. Most of those there had the foresight to pre-pay last night for breakfast, but I was not among them and awkwardly left my euro in a plastic cup somewhere not-quite-but-still-in-plain-view.
After that I went my own way to Melide. I checked into my private albergue (10 euro) as the public albergue (6 euro) wouldn't let me in without a physical passport, even though I had copy and my Spanish student card). The night before, the couple I'd run into a few times (they stayed at another albergue further on) told me the thing to do in Melide was eat octopus. I took a shower, left my things at the albergue, then went to look for a pulperia (restaurant specializing in octopus). I passed by a few, and then went back to the one that had the best looking entrance. Lo and behold, I ran into the couple and their friends! We ate lots of octopus, and drank lots of wine.
