I first hiked the Maple Pass Loop with my favorite meetup leader the fall after I moved to Seattle. This time we hiked it in late summer, before the larches begin to turn. I am sure it is a beautiful hike at any time of year, but since Highway 20 closes for the winter it is only accessible between May and October. The closure is between milepost 134, east of Diablo, and milepost 171, 14 miles west of Mazama.
