Anyone who has moved internationally understands the need to minimize the base weight of your suitcase so that you can maximize the amount you can bring without having to pay overweight fees. Larger suitcases are a godsend, but you need to be careful that you do not exceed 62 linear inches (height + width + depth) so that you do not need to worry about oversize charges. Maximum size allowed will differ by airline and some bag checkers will be more lenient than others, but 62" is considered a safe maximum.

I researched a lot of bags but the "it luggage" brand came up time and time again for best value:weight ratio (and often simply the lightest weight). I bought my first suitcase from the brand at Primark for 50 euro. I bought a second one ("Stiched Squares" style) from ebags for 75 dollars. You'll notice that the MSRP many online sites list for the brand is far more expensive than what the bags actually sell for, so definitely do some price comparison.
